Former Lawrence High School teacher charged with sexual assault in federal court

A former Lawrence teacher will face new federal charges of sexual assault, the U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire said Monday.

Jesus Moore, 35, has been charged with bringing a former student to New Hampshire to engage in sexually illicit conduct, U.S. Attorney Jane Young said. Moore was arrested in February after turning himself in to police in Manchester, New Hampshire.

He was charged with sexual assault in Manchester District Court in February. Court documents detailing the latest developments in the District Court case were not available on Monday evening.

The incident occurred on or about March 7, 2022, Young said in a statement. The victim was under 18 at the time and a student at the school where Moore was employed, prosecutors say.

As Boston.com previously reported, Moore worked as a physical education teacher and basketball coach for Lawrence High School.

Moore appeared in court on Monday. He was released on conditions that included not traveling outside of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, court documents said.

Moore’s trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 1. Moore’s lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The minimum sentence for abducting minors for the purpose of engaging in illegal sexual acts is ten years in prison.
