Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud is excited to play with his ‘brother’ Cade Stover

THE The Houston Texans were very impressed with the Ohio State Buckeyes after seeing what quarterback CJ Stroud was capable of doing after being selected with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

That’s part of the reason the Texans felt comfortable selecting Buckeyes tight end Cade Stover in the fourth round of this year’s draft. Plus, Stroud and Stover have a built-in chemistry that makes the Texans even better on offense.

“Yeah, Cade and I are brothers, man. He’s someone I was fortunate enough to play with in college, but he’s someone I spent a lot of time with off the field, barbecuing, hanging out, playing, all that kind of stuff,” Stroud said of Stover. “He’s someone I consider a brother to. Our families are very close. He’s done a great job here blocking, catching, running good routes. He’s the master of the offense, which is really exciting to see.”

Stover caught 82 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns in three seasons as a tight end for the Buckeyes. He started at Ohio State as a linebacker, which should increase his chances of playing on special teams with the Texans, but he emerged as a wide receiver for the Buckeyes, and now he’ll do the same with his college quarterback in the pros.

Stover and the Texans have just started training camp and the team is preparing for its first Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, Aug. 1, in Canton, Ohio, against No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears.
