FIA announces result of investigation against Max Verstappen after dramatic incident in Hungary

The FIA ​​​​has announced its decision on the incident involving Max Verstappen at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

After a difficult qualifying, Verstappen started the race in P3 behind the two McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

When the lights went out, the top three were desperate to take the lead and drove three abreast into the first corner.

It was Piastri who came out on top and took the lead of the Grand Prix after Verstappen attempted to overtake around the outside but went too wide and went off the track.

Verstappen complains over team radio

The champion returned to the track in second place ahead of Norris, whereupon the Briton asked Verstappen to give him his place back.

Both drivers complained over team radio, with Norris complaining about Verstappen’s illegal advantage and the Dutchman arguing that he had been pushed out by his rival.

The FIA ​​is investigating Verstappen and is considering a penalty if he does not give back his seat.

Eventually, the Red Bull star let Norris pass and reclaimed P2, but he was not happy with the decision.

“OK, so you can just push people off the track? You can tell the FIA ​​that this is how we are going to race from now on. We are just going to push people off the road,” said Verstappen.

After reviewing the incident, the FIA ​​concluded that no further action would be taken against Verstappen.

“The race stewards reviewed video, radio and video evidence from the car,” the FIA ​​wrote.

“Car 1 (Verstappen) left the track at the exit of Turn 1 while it was alongside Car 4 (Norris), which was alongside Car 81 (Piastri). Car 1 rejoined the track ahead of Car 4, thereby gaining an advantage.

“However, the driver later returned the position to Car 4 on the team’s instructions. Therefore, no further action will be taken as no lasting advantage was achieved.”
