Atlanta Weather Updates | July 18 Thunderstorms

ATLANTA — A new round of thunderstorms is moving through the Atlanta metro area Thursday afternoon.

Heavy rain and frequent thunderstorms are possible. A few thunderstorms could be capable of producing strong winds, but the threat of severe weather is low overall. The Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 1 severe weather threat to northeast Georgia due to high winds.

Latest updates

5:29 p.m.: Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 5:28 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT for Paulding and Cobb Counties

4:53 p.m.: Gordon County EMA said Union Grove Church Road is closed from Union Grove Road to Trimble Hollow Road for downed tree cleanup. It is unclear when the road will reopen. Officials said no structural damage has been reported.

4:30 p.m.: A ground stop has been issued for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 6:30 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
