The coroner identifies a man killed in a Dillon County crash on Highway 301

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A 21-year-old has been identified as the man killed in a crash in Dillon County on Highway 301 on May 2, Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley confirmed to News13.

The man was identified as John Robert Costello of Florence, Grimsley said. He died from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

The accident occurred around 12:58 p.m. on Highway 301 near Latta. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said two vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver of a 2005 tractor-trailer truck was traveling south on Highway 301 when a 2019 Ford Transit driven by Castello was traveling north when it crossed the center line and struck the tractor-trailer head-on, the highway patrol said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was airlifted to a local hospital and Castello, of the 2019 Ford Transit, died of his injuries at the scene, the highway patrol said.
