Video: Contact between Retzlaff and Kyle Sieg triggers seven-car crash in Pocono

As a small weather cell quickly approached Pocono Raceway, the action at Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 really picked up. Things got wild on the lap 46 restart, resulting in a seven-car crash that sent the race into its fifth caution period of the day.

The field fanned out into threes and fours heading into Turn 1, and as Kyle Sieg and Parker Retzlaff entered Turn 1, they couldn’t push down far enough to get through without contact. When Retzlaff made contact with the left rear of Sieg’s car, it knocked Retzlaff’s car out of shape and he slid up the track into the left front of Leland Honeyman’s No. 42 machine.

When Retzlaff and Honeyman collided, Retzlaff crashed into the side of Brennan Poole’s No. 44 Alpha Prime Racing machine and Honeyman crashed into the side of Ryan Ellis’ No. 43 car.

While attempting to pass the accident scene, Thomas Annunziata lost control of his No. 4 JD Motorsports Chevrolet, and as he attempted to regain control of his car, he was contacted by Josh Berry in the No. 15 AM Racing Ford.

Ellis was the driver hardest hit in the crash and was forced to retire from the race due to extensive damage to his No. 43 Alpha Prime Racing Chevrolet. Ellis was one of the drivers eliminated from Saturday’s Xfinity race at Pocono, along with Josh Bilicki and Dawson Cram, who was badly injured on Lap 2.
