Man arrested in connection with the killing of an Oakland County sheriff’s deputy faces trial for lying to police

An 18-year-old arrested in connection with the killing of an Oakland County sheriff’s deputy last month is expected to face charges of lying to police and resisting arrest, court documents say.

According to records from the 36th District Court in Detroit, Karim Blake Moore was arraigned in Wayne County District Court on Thursday.

According to court records, Moore is scheduled to appear in District Court for arraignment before Judge Prentis Edwards on July 24.

Moore’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment on Friday.

Police and prosecutors said Moore was one of three men arrested after Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Reckling was shot and killed June 22 while pursuing a stolen car in Detroit.

Reckling and two other detectives were pursuing a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox owned by a Rochester Hills resident that was stolen from Red Oaks Waterpark, authorities said.

Investigators said Reckling found the vehicle around 10:50 p.m. near Park Grove and Schoenherr on Detroit’s east side.

They said the suspects in the vehicle suddenly stopped, several people got out and shots were fired, hitting the 30-year-old Reckling in the head and upper body.
