BPD releases video of officer-involved shooting Wednesday

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) – Buffalo police are briefing reporters on a shooting that occurred Wednesday following a traffic stop. The driver who fled the scene was shot and later died at ECMC.

Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said the incident was tragic and the family of the driver who was shot has endured a lot of hardship in recent years. He said the level of force used by the officer who fired the shot was justified. However, the investigation will continue. Gramaglia also said the investigation into the gun found in the car Wednesday afternoon is ongoing.

The two officers involved in the incident have been identified as Ronald Ammerman (7.5 years of service) and Jonathan Crawford (2 years of service). Ammerman is the officer who discharged his weapon. Neither officer has yet been interviewed as part of the investigation.

The identity of the driver fatally shot in the incident has been identified as Daevon Roberts, 25. Roberts was recently indicted by a grand jury following an incident in which he allegedly intentionally shot someone in the city of Buffalo.
