“General Hospital” actor Doug Sheehan dies at the age of 75

Doug Sheehan, an actor known for his work in soap operas General Hospitalhas died. He was 75.

Sheehan’s death was made public by Wyoming-based funeral home Kane Funeral Home, which said the actor died “peacefully in his home on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, with his beloved wife by his side.”

“Funeral services are pending at this time. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements,” the announcement continued. A cause of death has not yet been announced.

While the Californian-born actor first appeared on television in 1978, Charlie’s Angels, His breakthrough came in 1979 with the role of lawyer Joe Kelly in General Hospital.

Sheehan appeared on the popular soap opera until 1982 and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the same year for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Drama Series.

In 1983 he moved to Dallas spin off Knots Landing in the role of reporter Ben Gibson and second husband of Valene Ewing (Joan Van Ark).

After retiring in 1988, he played stockbroker Brian Harper in the NBC sitcom Dailywhich aired for two seasons and starred Linda Kelsey and Christopher Daniel Barnes. His other television appearances include appearances in MacGyver, Diagnosis: Murder, Columbo, Cheers and that Clueless TV series.

Sheehan also appeared on the big screen in projects such as the 1979 comedy 101982s Victor/Victoria and 1995 police officers f Roberts.

His last appearance in front of the camera was as a guest star in What I like About You (with Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth) and Sabrina – Totally Bewitched! (with Melissa Joan Hart.)

Sheehan’s death was mourned on social media, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) writing, “He was away from #GH for 42 years and fans never forgot him and never stopped asking for his return. Not only is this impressive, but it’s a testament to Doug Sheehan.”
