Stormy Saturday in Houston before Beryl’s impacts

Today we are looking at an afternoon storm from noon through the evening with a chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain in some locations. Our high is 94°F but with the humidity some locations could reach up to 104°F.

This morning, Beryl is a tropical storm with winds of 60 mph.

Land interaction in the Yucatan Peninsula on Friday helped weaken Beryl, but it is now in an area some have called a “warm water buffet” and without land — which could intensify the storm from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall again.

Right now, a hurricane and storm surge warning has been issued for parts of the Texas coast. We are monitoring and tracking the potential for life-threatening winds of 120 to 120 mph and the potential for storm surges of 3 to 5 feet. And a flood risk on Monday for all of southeast Texas – we could see 5 inches of rain by Monday. After Beryl makes landfall, our weather pattern will change. Similar to the pattern we had a month ago, heavy rain is possible every day for the next week. These rainfall amounts will depend on how far Beryl moves west and north once it reaches Texas.
