Mass shooting in Philadelphia: 9 people, including 3 teenagers, shot near 60th Street and Kingsessing Avenue in southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — One person was killed and eight others were injured in a mass shooting in southwest Philadelphia on Thursday evening on Independence Day.

According to police, nine people were shot in southwest Philadelphia on Thursday evening, four teenagers and five adults.

According to police, nine people, three juveniles and six adults, were shot near the intersection of 60th Street and Kingsessing Ave. at 11:40 p.m.

Officers on routine patrol said they found a victim lying on the ground.

Responding officers discovered additional victims and several more were taken to area hospitals.

Action News was told that the teenagers were between 14 and 16 years old.

The victim killed has not yet been identified, but police said he was about 20 years old. He was shot once in the head and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The condition of the other victims is said to be stable.

Officials said the crime scene spanned two blocks and that a barbecue may have been taking place there at the time.

Police have not provided a description of possible suspects or released any information about a possible motive.

“At this time, we have no knowledge of any motive,” said Inspector Kpana Massaquoi of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Authorities are still searching for the person or persons responsible.
