One dead after car crashes into tree in Memphis neighborhood

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – One person is dead and another is recovering in the hospital after a car crashed into a tree in the Vollintine-Evergreen neighborhood of Memphis early Friday morning.

Memphis police said they were called to the accident at the corner of Jackson Avenue and North Evergreen Street shortly before 2 a.m. Friday.

There they found a white Ford Mustang that had crashed into a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Police are currently investigating why the car crashed into the tree.
