Nearly 9,000 people apply for Atlanta’s e-bike rebate program – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — After launching its e-bike rebate program in mid-June, the Atlanta Regional Commission reported Tuesday that nearly 9,000 residents have applied for it.

E-bike owners could earn anywhere from $500 to $2,000 to own an e-bike, depending on their annual income and the type of bike purchased.

As previously stated by News on channel 2The e-bike program provided an instant rebate and was set up to prioritize funding for people with low and moderate incomes.

Eligible residents who intended to participate in the program were eligible for a $1,500 rebate for a standard e-bike and $2,000 for an e-cargo bike, while rebates for other residents were set at $500 for a standard e-bike and $1,000 for an e-cargo bike.

During the week that applications were open, ARC said that “8,888 people applied for an e-bike rebate before the June 23 deadline for the first round of awards,” calling it an “immediate” success.

The ARC, which administers the rebate program on behalf of the city of Atlanta, said it held a lottery to determine which of the first applicants would receive the rebate funds. The organization said the first group of 413 recipients was selected and ARC paid them $375,000 for the rebate.

According to the CRA, this represented about 75% of the available rebates and was reserved for low- and middle-income people under the program.

“Of the 8,888 people who applied, 44% reported having sufficient income. This means their income is at or below 80% of the Atlanta area median household income,” the CRA said. “The income limit varies based on household size, starting at $60,200 for an individual.”

Although the first round of funding has closed, the commission said further opportunities will arise later in the year.

The ARC said the next application period is scheduled for late August, with a lottery selection in September and a third round scheduled for October.
