Child killed in accident in Steel Creek

Today (July 4), a child was killed in an accident at a recreational area in Burke County. At approximately 10:40 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the parking lot of Steel Creek Park & ​​Family Campground. A 2019 Chevrolet Silverado attempted to drive around a building and struck a pedestrian walking in front of the truck.

The pedestrian, an 18-month-old child, died of her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Silverado, a West Virginia resident, was uninjured. The initial investigation indicates that speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident. No charges will be filed in this case.
