Santa Cruz police arrest driver after suspected drunk driving crash that left one person dead – KION546

SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA (KION-TV) – An early morning crash in the Santa Cruz area left a pedestrian dead and a driver arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Santa Cruz police responded to the intersection of Mission and Laurel Streets around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, a 22-year-old pedestrian was struck in the street by a vehicle traveling south on Mission Street.

Investigators said the pedestrian was taken to a trauma center in San Jose but did not survive the accident.

According to police, the driver remained at the scene of the accident.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released as police said they first needed to notify family members of the person’s death.
