ATTENTION: Residents receive fake text messages claiming to be from the Election Commission

Fake text messages claiming to be from Cobb Elections urge voters to request a mail-in ballot
Cobb Elections does not communicate with voters via SMS

Marietta, GA – Several people have contacted Cobb’s Board of Elections saying they received text messages asking them to request a mail-in ballot. The text messages appear to be from a Cobb Board of Elections phone number and direct recipients to the Department of State’s page for mail-in ballot applications.

Although the link is legitimate, the text messages NOT from Cobb Elections, and the phone number is fake. Cobb County Elections does not currently send unsolicited election information via text message.

The incident has been reported to the state and is being investigated by Cobb Information Technology Services (ITS) and other companies.

Important safety tips:

Do not click on links in emails or texts unless you know the identity of the sender.

Fake websites may look identical to the real ones. Always check by typing the URL directly into your browser.
