AG Tong launches investigation into three-day music festival Capulet Fest 2024

Attorney General William Tong launched an investigation into Capulet Entertainment on Tuesday after receiving dozens of consumer complaints about the abrupt cancellation of the three-day Capulet Fest 2024 music festival.

“We have received dozens of complaints from frustrated Capulet Fest ticket holders,” Attorney General Tong said in a press release Tuesday.

“Fans paid hundreds of dollars and booked camping and overnight accommodations for a three-day outdoor festival. That’s not what they got,” Tong added. “Capulet Entertainment needs to explain exactly why things went so wrong and immediately refund every customer they disappointed.”

The festival was scheduled to take place from June 28-30 at Thompson Motor Speedway.

Ticket holders paid up to $700 for a three-day festival pass, expecting to experience 50 different bands and food trucks at an open-air festival.

Many ticket holders had arranged overnight accommodation, including nearby campsites.

The day before the festival began, Capulet moved the venue 50 miles away to the Webster Theater in Hartford, a much smaller, covered venue.

Many eagerly awaited bands canceled.

Capulet eventually canceled the final, third day of the festival. The Attorney General’s Office said it had received more than 60 complaints from ticket holders who had unsuccessfully requested a refund from Capulet.

In a letter of inquiry sent to Capulet on Tuesday, the attorney general’s office asked for information regarding concert promotion and scheduling, the reasons for the abrupt change of venue and cancellation of the third night, notice to Connecticut consumers of the change of venue and cancellation, accounting of festival revenues and any refunds made to date.
