Hickory man wanted by police found dead in attic of his home

A Hickory man wanted by police is dead.

According to a Hickory Police press release, officers entered a home at 2266 9th Avenue Drive NE in Hickory on Thursday and found the body of Dallas Loyd Gragg.

Police said investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

According to Hickory police, Gragg was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and intent to kill, as well as robbery with a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from a shooting and armed robbery that occurred June 20 at 3319 Valley Arbors Drive, Hickory. That’s the address of the Legends Apartments. Police said Gragg is a suspect in the case.

Police had been in contact with Gragg and were stationed around the house before his death. His body was found in the attic of the house.

The Legends Heist

In addition to Gragg, two other people were charged in connection with the armed robbery and shooting on June 20. According to Hickory police reports, one person was injured in the shooting.

Tony Ray Kirkland II, 24, is reportedly charged with robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to reports, 33-year-old Samantha Marie Vono is accused of aiding and abetting an armed robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and altering, destroying or stealing evidence of a crime.

According to the incident report, Hickory police were called to the Legends Apartments at 3319 Valley Arbors Drive around 6 p.m. on June 20 for a reported robbery. The address listed in the incident report matched Vono’s listed home address.

The victim was identified as Jason Ray Parsons, 36, of Statesville. Parsons suffered a gunshot wound and injuries that were not life-threatening, Hickory police said. The accident report said Parsons suffered broken bones.

The theft of a Michael Kors bag and $15,000 in cash was reported.

Kirkland and Vono are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Legends Apartments are located behind the AMC Hickory 15 movie theater on Catawba Valley Boulevard.
