Hamilton summoned to race control over bizarre incident

Lewis Hamilton has been summoned to the race stewards for an unsafe clearance during the final stages of qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix.

It is rule 34.14 a), which states: “Vehicles must not be driven from a garage or pit stop position in a manner that could endanger pit lane personnel or other persons.”

The Mercedes driver was seen leaving the garage with the jack attached to the rear of the car for his first run in Q3.

The camera caught him as the piece of equipment fell from the back of his W15 onto its side.

The 39-year-old qualified for the Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in fifth place, but Mercedes must explain the incident to the FIA.
