UN tells Israel it will suspend aid operations throughout Gaza if security is not improved | National

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senior U.N. officials have told Israel they will halt aid efforts in Gaza unless urgent steps are taken to better protect humanitarian workers, according to two U.N. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity about ongoing negotiations with Israeli officials. The ultimatum is the latest in a series of U.N. measures demanding that Israel do more to protect aid efforts from attacks by its forces and to curb growing lawlessness that is hampering humanitarian workers. The State Department says U.S. officials are talking with the U.N. and the Israeli military to try to address U.N. concerns, including making sure aid workers have radios and other equipment so they can communicate and move safely in Gaza.
