Dayton police respond to third shooting in less than 24 hours

The extent of the injuries was initially unknown.

It was the third report of a shooting investigated in the city in less than 24 hours.

The first incident occurred just before 1 a.m. in the 1500 block of Home Avenue near South Euclid Avenue, leaving one woman dead and six other people shot and injured, including an 18-year-old man with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The woman killed was identified by Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger as 22-year-old Donna Zile. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the drive-by shooting. Multiple weapons and multiple vehicles are believed to be involved in the shooting. The incident occurred at a large party in a vacant house.

The second shooting occurred about 10 hours later, at around 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of James H. McGee Boulevard and West Fifth Street.

A 911 caller reported seeing a man pointing a gun at a second man lying on the ground, according to dispatch records.

All three incidents remain under investigation.
