Accident in Kochi: Bus overturns in Kochi, one cyclist dies, at least 12 injured

A cyclist was killed and nine others injured on June 23 when an intercity luxury bus operated by Kallada Travels overturned after hitting a traffic signal pole at Madavana Junction in the Kundannur-Aroor NH Bypass corridor.

Jijo Sebastian, a 33-year-old motorcyclist from Wagamon, was trapped under the overturned bus. He could not be rescued although he was rushed to a nearby private specialty hospital.

The bus, which was on its way from Bengaluru to Varkala, had 42 passengers on board, many of whom were injured. Fire and rescue services lifted the bus with the help of a crane and cleared it from the road.

Injured are: Anjaly, 44, from Kollam; Elijah, 39, Alappuzha; Sudhamani, 56, Pathanamthitta; Lisa, 42, Aswin, 18 and Ankitha, 15, all from Kollam; Arya, 24, Kannur; Anandu, 27, Alappuzha; Ravikumar, 34, from a northern Indian state; Sobha, 52, Mavelikkara; Chandran Pillai, 60, Alappuzha and his daughter Athira, 26.
