GCM employee report

A domestic dispute escalated into violence late Wednesday night and ended in a stabbing in the 21,000 block of U.S. Highway 98 in Foley.

The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on June 19, resulted in serious charges against a Foley woman.

Shau Yanite Pickens, 43, was arrested after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the stomach during an argument. Foley police went to the scene and found the longtime partners involved in a heated argument that escalated into physical violence.

Pickens’ friend was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center and later flown by helicopter to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. He is being treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound and is expected to recover.

After a thorough investigation on scene, police gathered evidence and information that led to the arrest of Pickens. She was charged with second-degree domestic violence, a felony, and is currently being held in the Foley City Jail awaiting transport to the Baldwin County Jail.

Foley Police continue to investigate the case and review all aspects, including possible claims of self-defense.

“Our goal is to break the cycle of violence that often accompanies domestic violence, and we will continue to work toward that goal in this case,” the department said in a press release.
