Father gets 15 years in prison for raping his daughter » TheVoiceBW

A magistrate court in Francistown yesterday sentenced a 47-year-old man from Tatisiding to 15 years in prison for the rape of his biological daughter, who was 14 at the time of the incident.

The heinous crime occurred sometime in 2020 in Ngwenya district, where father and daughter, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, lived together.

In court it emerged that the evil father had given the victim a blue pill when she complained of a headache.

The court found that the father had intentionally given the pill to the victim, even though he knew of its sedative effect.

After his daughter fell asleep, he unbuttoned her clothes and had sexual intercourse with her.

When the child woke up, he noticed the manipulation of his genitals and reported the incident to the police.

When the father was brought to trial, he pleaded not guilty.

“The victim had to suffer when she had to testify in court against the person who gave birth to her. The father should be the victim’s protector, not the pervert. Cases of sexual assault are increasing at an alarming rate and the courts must make judgments that send a signal to other people who are thinking of committing the same crimes,” said Judge Game Mooketsi.

When announcing the verdict, the judge also stressed that the father showed no remorse when given the opportunity to explain his mitigating circumstances, as he chose not to say anything.

She added that the convicted man was an adult and therefore there was no justification for this as he was driven by lust.

“His actions were well calculated. When he gave her the tablet, he knew what he was doing. I therefore sentence the convicted person to 15 years in prison, retroactive to 30 May, the day of his conviction,” concluded Judge Mooketsi.
