Man arrested after fleeing police by car and on foot

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Police arrested a man Monday after he fled from them both in a vehicle and on foot.

Deandre Williams, 28, was arrested by Wichita Falls police on June 17 on escape and other charges.

Officers were driving from Windthorst Road into the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 287 at around 11:30 p.m. that day when the driver of a 2004 BMW cut them off.

Officers attempted to stop the BMW, but the driver, later identified as Williams, refused to stop. Instead, he sped off, leading officers on a chase that lasted about four miles, court documents say.

During the chase, Williams drove onto a bike path and through a golf course to elude police, but eventually stopped. After stopping the car, Williams got out and ran from police on foot until they were able to catch him.

Williams initially told officers his name was Brandon Smith, which led to him being charged with failure to identify himself. He eventually gave officers his real name and stated he lied because he was afraid of going to jail for his outstanding warrant.

Officers ran a background check on Williams and found the warrant he mentioned: an unspecified charge from Illinois.

Williams was arrested and booked into jail on three charges: evading arrest or custody, failure to identify, and probation violation. He remains in the Wichita County Jail on a total bond of $11,500.
