Former officer charged with sex abuse in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A former Owensboro police officer, 35-year-old Aleph Zavala, has been indicted by a Daviess County grand jury on sexual abuse charges.

The charges stem from allegations of sexual misconduct reported to the Owensboro Police Department during Zavala’s time on the force.

The complaint was filed in December 2023 after police responded to a burglary alarm at a U-Haul warehouse on W. Parrish Avenue in Owensboro.

The woman involved, who lived in one of the storage units and claimed to have permission from the business owner, alleged that Zavala returned after the officers left and sexually assaulted her.

Zavala is currently being held at the Daviess County Detention Center on $100,000 bail.
