Man in Sacramento area dies from gunshot wound to chest, murder investigation underway

SACRAMENTO – Officials are investigating a shooting that left a man dead Friday afternoon in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood of Sacramento County.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a man was shot in the chest at around 2 p.m. at the Gas Light Towers Apartments in the 3800 block of Annadale Lane. The man died just before 4:45 p.m., according to deputies.

A woman who was shot in the head was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. The relationship between the two victims is unknown.

“This area is busy and densely populated, but nothing like this,” said Sergeant Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. “It’s not a violent area that we come to on a regular basis to see something like this. This is, I’m sure, as much of a shock to them as it is to us.”

Officials confirmed the shooting occurred near the pool area. Officers are on scene investigating the shooting.

“We walk our dogs in this area. There are children who go to school (in this area). This is very surprising,” said Dion Lomack, who lives in the area. “I have never heard gunshots in this area. This is the first time.”

There was no information about what led to the shooting or who the suspect is.
