Man’s body recovered from Lake Siskiyou after reported drowning incident

The body of a drowning man was recovered from Lake Siskiyou.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said it received reports of a possible drowning in Lake Siskiyou on Wednesday. The SCSO responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and prepare a rescue boat to search the water.

According to SCSO, witnesses at the scene told officers that a man in his 30s was swimming around a boat with a friend when the boat drifted out of reach. The man then struggled to stay afloat and disappeared from view.

According to SCSO, a dive team was dispatched to search the area, assisted by Siskiyou County’s search and rescue dog and drone units. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the operation.

According to SCSO, these joint efforts lasted until approximately 2:54 p.m. Thursday, when the man’s body was found and recovered at a depth of 49 feet underwater.

SCSO says it will wait to release the name of the deceased until next of kin have been notified.
