Former Cherokee County Sheriff Arrested in Federal Child Abuse Investigation

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Georgia – Federal authorities have arrested a former Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy in a child abuse investigation.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said Steven Bunte was arrested at his home in Gordon County Tuesday morning.

According to prison records, Bunte was charged with five counts of computer/electronic pornography and child exploitation.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said Bunte had been employed at the adult detention center for five years.
