Veteran Sunrise Police Sergeant Arrested on Multiple Charges – NBC 6 South Florida

A veteran Sunrise police sergeant was arrested on numerous charges following an investigation, officials said Tuesday.

Sergeant Daniel Rodriguez faces charges including making written or electronic threats to kill or physically harm, threats of extortion and tampering with evidence, Sunrise police said.

Rodriguez voluntarily turned himself in to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was arrested, officials said.

Few details of the investigation have been released, but officials said Rodriguez’s conduct was thoroughly investigated.

Rodriguez was placed on leave and his police weapon, badge, identification and patrol car were confiscated, officials said.

He also “had no contact with the public in an official capacity,” the department said.

According to records, Rodriguez, 44, has been with the Department of Corrections since 2007. He previously served in the Army and spent time in Iraq before joining the Florida Department of Corrections in 2004.

Rodriguez was a member of the Sunrise Police Department’s SWAT unit and was named Officer of the Month four times.

“The Sunrise Police Department demands the highest standards of conduct from its members and any actions that violate the public trust are taken extremely seriously,” police said in a statement Tuesday. “The actions exhibited by Rodriguez do not reflect the mission, vision and core values ​​of the men and women of the Sunrise Police Department.”
