CBIT in turmoil after employees protest against sexual harassment by superiors

Hyderabad: The Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) was embroiled in a controversy after allegations of sexual harassment emerged against two senior officials.

The directors of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Dr. M. Sushanth Babu and Trivikram Rao, are accused of sexually harassing a professor for several months, causing great unrest among the staff.

The horrific ordeal came to light when the victim, a respected professor, approached management and described her horrific experience. Despite her repeated warnings to the directors, their inappropriate behaviour is said to have continued, culminating in the disgusting offer to “share a bed”.

The incident, which Rector Narasimhulu initially dismissed as minor, has sparked violent protests within the university community. Teaching and non-teaching staff gathered on campus on Saturday demanding immediate justice and accountability, leading to a violent standoff near the Rector’s office.

Sanjeev T, the president of the Non-Teaching Employees’ Union, staged a sit-in outside the entrance to the principal’s office, blocking his way. Instead of addressing the complaints, Narasimhulu then chose to climb over Sanjeev and leave the room, further fuelling the protesters’ outrage.

The situation is further complicated by the allegations of misconduct and fraud related to Dr Sushanth Babu. According to a document submitted by the employees, Dr Babu is accused of simultaneously holding multiple posts at different institutions, including Malla Reddy Institute of Engineering and Technology and Shreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology, while officially employed at Matrusri Engineering College.

Such fraudulent activities have raised serious doubts about his professional integrity. The document also accuses Dr Babu and Dr P Vijaypal Reddy of being highly manipulative and creating false documents to cover their tracks. Both have been described as “selfish and rude” and are known to behave inappropriately towards female students and staff.

The document highlighted instances of Dr Babu abusing female staff for inappropriate activities in his cabin. Previous such sordid incidents led to his dismissal from other colleges. He is reportedly currently having an extramarital affair with a colleague from his department, which further aggravates the situation.

His alleged sexual harassment has pushed several female faculty members into depression, some even leaving the college. The demands of the staff include the immediate arrest of Sushanth Babu and Trivikram Rao, failing which they would intensify their protests.
