Rainy weekend, thunderstorms tonight

(KFVS) – After some early morning showers, the rain is letting up…but not for long as we’re expecting some storms tonight.

We will start Saturday with temperatures around 15 degrees, but in the afternoon the maximum temperatures will reach 28 degrees.

As the rain moves out of the Heartland, expect drier conditions with cloudy skies. The humidity and heat will make it warm and muggy this afternoon. Expect the wind to pick up throughout the day.

There could be a slight increase in the rain we saw this morning, but what you really want to keep an eye on is the risk of thunderstorms later tonight.

A storm depression will approach our western counties around 10 p.m. tonight, expanding rapidly as it moves through the region overnight. This line of storms will have the greatest impact on southeast Missouri, but will also cross parts of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and Tennessee.

According to Chief Meteorologist Grant Dade, widespread rainfall of between 1 and 3 inches is likely, with areas of the Ozarks receiving between 3 and 5 inches. This would likely cause flooding in and around creeks and rivers. Campgrounds in the area could be a problem overnight.

There is a flood warning for parts of southeast Missouri today. Please pay attention to the weather.

This system will also bring strong, gusty winds and hail.

Currently, it looks like most activity will leave the area by midday Sunday, leaving the afternoon hours dry.
