Omaha police arrest 27-year-old for shooting 59-year-old near Carter Lake

Omaha police made an arrest in the homicide on May 17. Officers arrived at the scene near 9th Street and Carter Lake Boulevard after an initial report of a motorcycle accident, but investigators later found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound. Bernard Leonard, 59, was unresponsive near his motorcycle. On Friday, police arrested 27-year-old Brandon Mikesh on charges of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a crime, illegal possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence and third-degree arson. OMAHA, Nebraska —

Omaha police made an arrest in connection with the murder on May 17.

Officers arrived at the scene near 9th Street and Carter Lake Boulevard after an initial report of a motorcycle accident, but investigators later found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

Bernard Leonard, 59, was unconscious next to his motorcycle.

On Friday, police arrested 27-year-old Brandon Mikesh on charges of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a serious crime, illegal possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence and third-degree arson.
