Man arrested in Houston in connection with east Charlotte murder: CMPD

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Jose Francisco Ulloa-Martinez, 42, was arrested in Houston, Texas, in connection with the murder of Kevin Merlos-Saravia, 23, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

On Monday, June 3, Ulloa-Martinez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder by Houston police and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. CMPD detectives traveled to Houston to interview the suspect who is currently awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County, officials said.


Shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapons call in the 6100 block of Winged Elm Court.

Merlos-Saravia was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot during an altercation between him and the suspect, police said.

Ulloa-Martinez’s arrest was an effort by officials from CMPD, Fairfield County (SC) Sheriff’s Office, SLED, ICE, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations ( ERO), the Houston Police Department and the Houston Police Department Gang Unit.
