Orange City man hospitalized after accident near Hawarden

Hawarden, Iowa – An Orange City man was hospitalized Monday after a crash northeast of Hawarden.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that 19-year-old Jesus Fernando of Hawarden was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia northbound on K18, three miles northeast of Hawarden. They tell us that 30-year-old Justin Mills of Orange City was driving a 2012 Mazda westbound on B46.

According to the report, Mills failed to observe the stop sign on K18 and collided with Fernando at the intersection.

The damage to the Mazda was estimated at $8,000. The Fernando GMC sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.

Hawarden ambulance took Mills to Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

Mills was charged with failure to obey a stop sign. Fernando was charged with driving without a valid license.

The sheriff’s office said Hawarden Fire and Rescue Departments assisted them in responding to the accident.
