Buffalo man charged with fatal shooting of another man

A Buffalo man who was already on remand after his arrest for two other crimes was arraigned Wednesday before state Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres on other charges including a third incident.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Emanuel T. “Manny” Stokes, 28, was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, as well as two counts each of possession second degree criminal offense with a weapon. and second-degree assault.

Stokes was previously arraigned May 22 before Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry on charges of murder, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Around 1:55 a.m. on April 16, Stokes allegedly shot another man outside a residence in the 100 block of Orlando Street, between Perry and Elk streets, in Buffalo. The victim continues to recover at Erie County Medical Center from injuries to his back, arm and hand.

In the early morning hours of May 12, Stokes is accused of fatally shooting Nicholas Calhoun, 34, near Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Calhoun was pronounced dead at ECMC.

That same morning, around 2:25 a.m., Stokes was accused of stabbing a teenager at a residence in the 200 block of Mills Street. The boy was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital with a stab wound to his arm and a cut to his neck.

Stokes, who remains held without bail, is scheduled to return to Municipal Court on June 21 for a pretrial conference. If convicted of the highest charge against him, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
