6-year-old killed in collision in Coral Springs – NBC 6 South Florida

Six-year-old Harlow Jet Tran had her whole life ahead of her. She was a typical child: loved to draw, loved her cats and loved her family.

Her birthday was still two months away. She spoke Vietnamese, Spanish and English. She is the light in everyone’s life, said her godmother Grecia Sotomayor.

“Loved with a full chest and a full heart,” Sotomayor said. “That’s not right, that should never have happened.”

Harlow was on her way home with her great-grandmother on Sunday. At the same time, Coral Springs police said they attempted to pull over Chevon Graham for driving with dark tint.

Investigators said Graham failed to stop and sped away, but due to her department’s policy, the officer did not pursue and turned off the lights and sirens.

Moments later, Graham collided with the car carrying the 6-year-old and her great-grandmother at Sample Road and Northwest 85th Avenue, police said. Harlow was thrown from the car and later died. Harlow’s great-grandmother is still in the hospital.

Surveillance video from a nearby apartment complex shows an officer pulling up behind both cars seconds later. Graham crashed into two other cars just a few meters away.

Police said Graham was driving with a suspended license and two other people were also in the car with him.

Enrique Perez, Harlow’s great-uncle, said his mother was driving the car.

“Hearing my mother calling from the scene of the accident, asking to be picked up to give this little girl a chance, is something you can’t forget,” Perez said. “Chevon Graham is a child murderer.”

Harlow’s godmother said she was disappointed that police turned off her lights and sirens. She believes her tragedy was preventable.

“It was a combination of anger and disbelief,” Sotomayor said. “He ripped the car in half and threw my baby in the air.”

She has Harlow’s name tattooed on her arm and memories etched into her heart. Right now the family wants justice and something else.

“There’s no other way to put it: We want Harlow back,” Sotomayor said.

There is a GoFundMe for the family.
