Early Friday morning, May 31, Salina Region Health Center staff treated a Salina resident for a significant eye injury – the victim stated someone struck him in the face with a pipe.

At 2 a.m., officers from the Salina Police Department (SPD) went to the local hospital and took the 65-year-old man’s report of the incident.

SPD Captain Mike Miller said the victim said he drove to a residence in the 100 block of Taylor Court to meet a woman, but when he knocked on the door, no one answered.

The man then returned to his blue Chevrolet Venture, and as he sat in front of the house, a man outside approached him and demanded answers.

“A gentleman (alleged suspect) passed between some houses … and said, ‘Why are you here? What are you doing?'” Miller said. “The unknown white male struck him (the victim) in the face with a blunt object. He thought it might be a pipe.”

Miller said the alleged aggravated assault occurred sometime between 1:45 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. The victim then drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

The victim reported some details and was then taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Salina Post will update the story as more information becomes available.
