Bowie teenager killed in crash, man seriously injured – Bowie News

A 16-year-old girl from Bowie was killed and her father was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident 400 km south of Bellevue on US 287 on Friday afternoon.

The preliminary investigation released Friday evening by the Department of Public Safety found that a 2020 tractor-trailer pulled by a semi-trailer had stopped on the right shoulder of U.S. 287. The truck driver was Donald Shelton Jr., 47, of Houston.

James McGlothlin, 48, of Fort Worth, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu south on U.S. 287 and was not traveling in one lane, DPS officials said. The Malibu struck the rear of Vehicle 1, spun clockwise in the lane and then struck the trailer of a third tractor-trailer driven by Matthew Lowe, 45, of Decatur, AL.

The car came to a stop in both southbound lanes. The passenger, a teenager from Bowie, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth with serious injuries.

In accordance with department policy and out of respect for the families of those involved, DPS will not release the names of the minors involved in this accident.

Bowie ISD administration announced that the gym would be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday so students and staff could gather following the loss of this student.
