Two suspects arrested in connection with a shooting in Pottawattamie County

Two suspects were arrested Friday in connection with the investigation of shootings in the greater Pottawattamie County area, and a third in Omaha.

The U.S. Marshals’ Metro Area Fugitive Task Force arrested Shavonne Latin, 36, and Darryl Nelson, 34, in Pottawattamie County. Both suspects are awaiting extradition to Nebraska on charges of unlawful or intentional discharge of a firearm and use of a firearm to commit a crime, according to a news release.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska also announced that Wendell Latin, 40, was located in Omaha and booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility on suspicion of the same charges.

On Memorial Day, sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call for “shots fired” in the area of ​​6700 North 89th Court, just south of Omaha’s Lake Cunningham Recreation Area.

According to the press release, officers encountered two victims who reported that three gunmen opened fire on their vehicle when they arrived at the Irvington Heights apartment complex.

“The victims were able to dodge the bullets and sped away, narrowly avoiding being shot,” the press release states. “The vehicle was hit by gunfire.”

An investigation identified the suspects and law enforcement obtained arrest warrants. The three were arrested without incident on Friday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
