Central Minnesota man pleads guilty to sexually abusing a young girl

St. Cloud (WJON News) – A St. Cloud man has now pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a young girl.

An adult woman called authorities last October to report that she had been sexually abused by a 48-year-old Gregory Barrett from their sixth to their thirteenth year of life.

The victim said she came forward after learning that Barrett had tried to watch his stepdaughter while she was showering.

The abuse occurred at a residence on West St. Germain Street in St. Cloud, a residence in Pequot Lakes and a residence in St. Augusta.

When the victim’s sister learned of the alleged abuse, she called Barrett and confronted him. According to the indictment, Barrett admitted to sexually abusing her sister and that he would give her money to keep quiet. The records show he also said there was “no point in lying about it.”

Barrett pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a person under the age of 16, involving multiple offenses.

His verdict will be announced in August.
