Portsmouth man arrested after police investigation into child pornography

On April 12, 2024, the Portsmouth Police Department initiated an investigation into Stephen Farrea, 34, of 37 Souza Way, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, after receiving credible information suggesting his involvement in the possession of child pornography. The investigation culminated in a court-approved search warrant for Farrea’s residence, which resulted in the seizure of several electronic devices.

Subsequent forensic analysis of these devices found explicit images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. This discovery led the Portsmouth Criminal Investigation Department to obtain a court-approved arrest warrant for Farrea.

On May 24, 2024, Stephen Farrea was arrested by the Portsmouth Police Department. He was arraigned in 2nd Division District Court on a charge of possession of child pornography, where bail was set at $5,000 with surety.

The arrest represents an important step in local law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable populations.
