“The CCOA is deeply concerned about any criminal charge against a chiropractor that may indicate patient harm,” spokeswoman Dana Myckan said in a written statement. “In these cases, the CCOA will exercise its authority under the (Health Professions Act) to protect the public. This may include applications for conditions or suspension of a chiropractor’s license to practice, as well as disciplinary proceedings under the HPA.”

As of Tuesday, the college’s website showed no change to Basaraba’s professional license, which lists him as “authorized to practice the profession.”

The College stated that an application must first be made under the Health Professions Act before it can decide whether suspending or imposing conditions on a member’s professional qualifications is in the public interest.

“This involves several steps set out in the HPA and will be completed as quickly as possible. Taking into account the Health Professions Act and the FOIP University by Chiropractors of Alberta, like every cUniversitycannot comment on ongoing disciplinary measures.”

“If a decision is made to impose conditions or suspend a professional licence, this will be immediately made publicly available on our website.”

The college declined further comment, citing the legal proceedings.
