SWAT team responds to stabbing

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (KREX) – Grand Junction Police officers responded to a reported stabbing Friday afternoon.

Officers arrived at Lucky Me Liquor around 4:10 p.m. and found the victim, an adult male, suffering from an apparent stab wound. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene by car and was located by GJPD and Colorado State Patrol at a residence in the area of ​​North 29 Road and Epps Drive. The suspect refused to exit the home and was uncooperative. GJPD SWAT officers were dispatched to assist in making contact with the suspect. At approximately 7:30 p.m., 31-year-old Donnie Tielor Powell was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Second degree assault

  • harassment

  • Threatening

  • Threat with a real or imitation weapon

  • theft

  • Third degree motor vehicle theft

  • Obstruction of a peace officer

  • Resisting arrest

A curfew was imposed in the surrounding area and roads were closed at the time of the incident.

The GJPD assumes that this is an isolated incident and that there is no further danger to the public. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no further information is currently available.
