JANESVILLE, Wis. (WTVO) – Janesville police arrested a man twice on the same day for drunk driving after letting him go on his first offense.

According to police, officers were called to the area between Milton Avenue and Blackbridge Road at around 5.14pm on Friday because a vehicle was swerving on the roadway.

Authorities conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of N. Ringold Street and said the driver, Jeffrey Janecek, 53, showed signs of impairment and failed the sobriety test. He was arrested, charged with driving under the influence and released to a sober person around 6 p.m.

Janesville police said, “This is standard procedure for a first-time drunk driving arrest.”

Several hours later, at approximately 10:27 p.m., an officer observed a car traveling south on Milton Avenue near Mt. Zion Avenue drift out of its lane and traveling 15 mph over the speed limit.

Janecek told police he had just left a bar and was arrested again. This time he was booked into the Rock County Jail “for his continued dangerous conduct.”
