National Weather Service will not come to assess storm damage in Houston County

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The National Weather Service will not be traveling to Houston County to assess damage from last week’s storms.

According to the National Weather Service, they will remotely assess the possible tornado using photos provided by the Houston County EMA.

The NWS did not provide a reason why it could not send an investigation team to Houston County.

The bulk of Friday’s storms were centered around Cottonwood. They nearly destroyed a church, downed several power lines and trees across town and overturned a camper in the front yard of a home.

The town of Cottonwood suffered significant destruction earlier this year after an EF-2 tornado touched down.
