Apartment fire in Grand Forks under investigation

(Grand Forks, ND) – Four apartment tenants were forced to evacuate their homes after a fire broke out in Grand Forks Thursday afternoon.

According to Battalion Chief Chris Carlson, firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of North 5th Street shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday because smoke was reported in the building.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they encountered thick black smoke on the second floor of the apartment building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. One apartment had sustained significant fire and smoke damage, and there was smoke damage throughout the entire second floor. Smoke was removed from the building, but four residents were forced to evacuate their homes.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
