Accident with personal injury caused by impaired driver in Missoula

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – On May 18, 2024 at approximately 4:26 p.m., a Missoula Police Department officer was called to a personal injury crash at the intersection of Brooks St. and Central Ave. When the officer arrived at the scene, he observed another officer speaking with a man later identified as 34-year-old Anthony Crow.

Crow was visibly bleeding from his face and was examined by medical personnel. The officer noted that Crow had a large cut on his lower lip and blood on his arms, hands and face, and that Crow’s vehicle was smeared with blood throughout. Crow’s vehicle also had significant front-end damage and was leaking fluid.

The officer noticed that Crow was incredibly agitated, unable to stand still, and constantly fidgeting with his hands. He also noticed that Crow’s pupils were very constricted, which can be caused by drug use.

The officer spoke to the drivers of the other two vehicles involved, who said they were not injured. The drivers of both vehicles said they were stuck in traffic and were struck from behind.

The officer spoke with Crow, who stated that he had not consumed any alcohol or used any recreational drugs. During standardized field sobriety tests, the officer found 7 of 18 signs of impairment.

An MPD corporal conducted ARIDE testing and concluded that his observations overall indicated that Crow was under the influence of drugs at the time of testing. According to court documents, Crow performed a preliminary breath test that showed no evidence of alcohol.

Crow was arrested for DUI and taken to the Missoula County Detention Center. The corporal ordered the officer to look through the driver’s side window. On the floor of the driver’s seat, the officer clearly saw a piece of aluminum foil with burn residue and a melted small round blue pill.

A probation search of the vehicle was later conducted. Officers seized the original piece of aluminum foil, 11 suspected fentanyl tablets, a blue straw with burn residue on the ends, and a syringe without a cap.

Crow was on probation for one or more drug offenses at the time of the investigation. He is currently facing charges of illegal possession of dangerous drugs, driving under the influence, reckless driving and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
