Officials identify pedestrian killed in Rock Island crash

The pedestrian killed in a crash in Rock Island on Thursday was an East Peoria man.

According to previous reports, the collision occurred in the 1400 block of First Avenue at 8:25 p.m. Police believe the pedestrian was walking on the south side of the road west of the Stanley Talbot Memorial Bridge, also called the Centennial Bridge, when he was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Impala driven by a 20-year-old man.

The pedestrian’s name was Steven Aeschliman, 40, said Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.

Preliminary results from Aeschliman’s autopsy conducted Monday indicate he died of blunt force trauma, Gustafson said.

After the collision, the Rock Island Fire Department took both men to the hospital, according to previous reports. Officers there pronounced the pedestrian dead. Hospital staff treated the driver and he was released.
