Police say three men have been arrested in the death of Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas

Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, 34, was killed and another man was critically injured on April 1 when three gunmen surrounded their SUV on S. Wayside and began shooting.

HOUSTON – Three men have been arrested in connection with the fatal ambush of a man at a Gulfgate-area gas station, according to court documents.

According to court documents, Hernan Torres, Sr. 50, Hernan Torres Jr., 25, and Hernando Torres, 19, are charged with murder.

Hernan Jr. and Hernando Torres were arrested Monday evening by the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, along with Drug Enforcement Administration agents and U.S. Marshals, Houston police said.

Hernan Sr. is in custody in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on unrelated charges. He is currently awaiting extradition to Harris County.

The victim was later identified as Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas34, was the son of Alfredo Pachecois the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic.

A 29-year-old man, whose name was not released, was also critically injured in what homicide detectives described as a “targeted” attack.

The deadly ambush happened just after 7 p.m. April 1 at the Star Stop convenience store on South Wayside Drive near Telephone Road and the Gulf Freeway.

The next day the police released him Surveillance photos One of the three gunmen allegedly opened fire on a Cadillac Escalade containing the victims and two other men.

They pulled up in a gray four-door Dodge Charger and a gray four-door Mercedes sedan, surrounded the SUV and began shooting.

“It was extremely violent. It was well orchestrated, it was planned and these are some very dangerous individuals,” Andy Kahan of Crime Stoppers Houston told us. “It reminded me of something so vicious and brutal that came out of nowhere with a hail of bullets.”

Pacheco Rojas tried to run back into the store and was shot multiple times in the back. Police said he was also armed, but it is not clear whether he returned fire.

The other two men in the SUV were not injured.

There appeared to be more than two dozen bullet holes in the SUV’s windshield. Bullets also shattered the front of the store, leaving holes in a window and a wall. One employee told KHOU 11 News he was lucky not to have been hit.

According to police, two suspects were dressed all in white and a third was wearing a white shirt and black pants. One of them had distinctive tattoos on his neck.

There is surveillance video of the shooting. We were there when HPD looked at it in store on April 3rd but did not release it to the media.
